Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls was created by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo, co-founders of children’s media company Timbuktu Labs, and illustrated by women artists around the world. Favilli and Cavallo published their book through Kickstarter. The women hoped to raise $40 000 and print 1000 copies. By the time the Kickstarter campaign had closed, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls had raised over $600 000. For more information on this check out The Guardian.
The book gives readers the stories of 100 inspirational, revolutionary, and rebellious women from all over the world. These short autobiographies are written like fiction and each rebellious woman is allocated one page of text and one page of illustration. The book features a wide range of women including mathematician Ada Lovelace, tattoo Artist Maud Stevens Wagner, activist Rosa Parks, artist Frida Kahlo, model Alek Wek, writers Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte, and many more fabulous females.
An important book for the rebel in all us and hopefully a soon to be staple on young girls’ bookshelves everywhere.
